DISASTER RELIEF FOR HAITI
There have been a number of efforts to help the people of Haiti suffering from the recent earthquake.
1) Members of Immanuel have donated $1,305 to the Lutheran Disaster Fund. (Within a week of the earthquake, ELCA members had already donated more than $1.2 million to fund relief efforts of ELCA partner organizations working on the ground in Haiti.). If you are a member of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, they will give $1 for every $2 you give if you donate through their website ( https://www.thrivent.com/helpinghaiti/index.html ).
2) The Sunday School plans to have a Service project to help Haiti. They intend to raise money and make health kits to send to Haiti via Lutheran World Relief. The health kits (washcloths, towels, soap, toothbrush, etc. - directions are available on the lwr website) are specifically highlighted on the LWR website as something they need.
3) On February 21, Immanuel hosted a Community sing of Vivaldi's Gloria as a benefit for Haiti Relief. This was directed by Dr. Anne Weaver with instrumentalists and Dr. Matthew Cron at the piano. A free-will offering was received for the cause. |
